What Actually Happens at a Wedding Florist Consultation

You have found a florist whose work makes you feel something, you have filled out the questionnaire, and now there is a call on the calendar. If you have never done this before, it is completely reasonable to wonder what you are supposed to say, what you are supposed to bring, and whether you are meant to have everything figured out already. You are not. The consultation exists so we can figure it out together. Here is what actually happens.
The first thing we do is not talk about flowers. We talk about you. How did you two meet, what does the day need to feel like, who is in the room, what moments matter most to you. This is not small talk. The way you describe your celebration tells us more about the design than any single flower name ever could. Someone who says they want the day to feel like a long dinner in a garden with people they love is telling us something very different from someone who wants grand and architectural, even if they both love roses. We design around your story first, then we choose the stems that serve it.
From there we get practical. We will ask about your venue, your date, your guest count, and your overall vision for the look. If you have a color palette in mind, wonderful. If you have a folder of saved images, even better, bring them. And bring the images that made you stop scrolling even if you cannot explain why, because those often reveal your taste more honestly than the ones you think you are supposed to like. We will also want to know what you have already booked. Your planner, your venue, your rentals, and your other vendors all shape what the florals can do, so the more we know, the more accurate our guidance will be.
We will talk honestly about scope and investment during this conversation, not after it. That means we will walk through what full-service design includes, where installations and rentals fit, and roughly what your vision tends to require. We would rather have a clear, kind conversation about numbers early than surprise you later. Our full-service floral and event design typically begins around forty-five hundred dollars with a minimum of one hundred twenty-five guests, and it grows with the scale of your installations, rentals, and overall scope. Knowing that up front helps you decide whether we are the right fit before anyone falls in love with a proposal.
A few things make the conversation richer if you can bring them. A rough guest count, even an estimate. Your venue name and any photos of the spaces you will use, especially the ceremony and reception. Your color direction if you have one. Images you are drawn to. And a sense of your priorities, because almost every celebration has a place where the flowers should sing and places where they can be quieter. Telling us where you want to spend helps us design a day that feels intentional rather than evenly spread thin.
What you do not need to bring is a finished plan. You do not need to know the difference between a garden rose and a ranunculus, and you do not need to have chosen your centerpieces. That is our work. If you arrive with nothing but a feeling and a date, we can still have a productive conversation. The consultation is a beginning, not a final exam.
After we talk, we take everything you have shared and translate it into a proposal built specifically for your celebration. Every design we create is made around your story, your vision, your venue, and its atmosphere, so no two proposals look alike. From there we refine together until it feels unmistakably yours. If any of this sounds like the way you want to plan, fill out our florals and events questionnaire and we will be in touch within twenty-four hours to schedule a call and begin dreaming with you.
