It is a fair question, and one we would rather answer plainly than leave you guessing. So here is how we think about it, and what tends to show up in a proposal when a celebration takes us beyond Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Start with what travel is not. It is not a surcharge for the privilege of leaving home. Design fees, sourcing, and the artistry of your flowers are their own line, priced the way they would be anywhere. Travel is simply the cost of physically getting a design team, and often the design itself, to your venue and back in the condition your day deserves. When those two things get folded into one number, the whole thing feels murky. Separated out, it makes sense quickly.

The largest piece is usually logistics for the people. A destination design means a team on the ground, which means flights or a long drive, lodging for the nights around your date, ground transportation, and meals while we are working. None of this is glamorous, and none of it is padding. Installing large-scale florals is physical work that often begins the day before and stretches into the early hours of your wedding morning. We build those days into the plan so nothing is rushed, and the associated costs live in the travel portion of your proposal rather than hiding inside your flower total.

Then there is the question of the flowers themselves, and this is where destination work gets genuinely interesting. In many cases the smartest, most sustainable choice is to source locally at your destination through trusted wholesale partners near the venue. Fresh stems that have not endured a cross-country journey simply perform better, and it spares you the cost and risk of transporting perishable product. In other cases, particularly for specialty blooms or hard elements like structures and vessels, we bring what we can and coordinate the rest to meet us there. Structures, vessels, and hard goods deserve their own mention. Arches, draping, candle styling, and reception decor are heavy and bulky, and shipping them long distances rarely makes sense. Most clients book eight to twelve months out for weddings and large-scale events, and for destinations we lean toward the earlier end of that range.
